Part 2.. NANJALA. 
She just stormed out on me. I couldnt help but stare at her nini's as they vibrated and swayed to the beats of her legs. God does she get tired of carying those around, at this moment i had forget my embarasment my thoughts were far away, in some bedbug infested bed with her acting as my matress as i..... 
Its then that i remembered that Wafula was besides me all through,  and then it all hit me, did i just firt in the Church?.  .. 
."msakhulu?" This was a nickname we had given wafula. "Ati nimeshuta church?." 
"Hahaha, boss lapta ni ile maharakwe ulikula K.M., 
Nyinyi watoto mayoyo mnakuanga na shita sana." 
Just before i could digest and translate what he had said to a language i could understand i saw his face lighten up, he had seen someone, there is only one person apart from food ofcause that could make msakhulu smile out of the blues, Nanjala, yes, Nanjala. Have i told you about the famous Nanjala. Well all i know about her is what he told us. Nanjala is a daughter of her father in all ways except for her sitting alowance which se seems to carry for the whole village. Her legs could give rooney a run for his money probably shaped from years of transversing the hills of ingo with a bucket of water on the head, if she lay on her back then her back side will give her p#%#@ a 45 degree angle of elevation.(you dont need pillows). And her appetite.. ni kama ako na mkutano kwa tumbo.... Fron the little i know they met during the orientation week. As he puts it their meeting was the most romantic ever.(acording to wafulas naration) 
It was the first day of orientation wafula was more confused than ever. He didn't know what to do, where to start or whom to ask. Or maybe he knew who to ask but his pride was all over him and he could not ask any one, just at that moment as if sent by the gods this gal aproached him, she was the most beautiful girl he was yet to see (if you ask me i'd tell you beauty lies in the eyes of the beer holder) . 
" kwani umepotea?" 
She asked. 
" hapana, no, am alright, just that ...i dont know where the school of foods and nutrituon is located." 
"Oh, its near western mess' i could take u there," .. 
Well after they were done with registration and everything, Wafula being the man that he is descided to take Nanjala for lunch, as every student would do on a first date they odered chips n soda not a luhyas defination of meal, or rather kuchokoza tumbo tu, they ate in silence each trying not to loik glatonous or greedy. As usual what is called nairobi maners they had to leave some on the plate. Nanjaka couldn,t aford to scare away her date by wiping the plate clean. .. 
" umeshipa, are u full" 
Wafula asked. 
Nanjala just noded at the expense of her stomach and that of wafulas pocket, Wafula was so angry at the food that Nanjala left on the plate that he wished he never met her in the first place. After that meal they did not talk much, they just said their goodbyes and went their separate ways, but Msakhulus stomach was angry, he had to fill it up before it starts rumbling.
Wanjala decided to go to another mess within the campus to fill his stimach, he walked as if moving to his room to make sure he was out of site then he diverted and headed for eastern mess on the other side of campus. He wanted to oder gis usual, ugali tatu beans, veges, na ueke kwa sahani mbili tofauti. On reaching the mess there was this long que and he waited patiently. Just as his turn came someone jumped que and making maters worst steped on wafulas foot... 
"Nipee ugali mbili beans pliz." 
She odered. 
" we sister unaruka line na tena unanikanyaga." 
Wafula complained. 
When the lady turned to apologise, wololo it was NANJALA...as they say the rest is history.......

THIS IS THE ORIGIN OF BEDBUGS IN KENYAN CAMPUSES

It is a common thing to hear comrades complain about Bedbug attacks. Almost every University, has at least one hostel infested by this crazy blood sucking animal or do we call it an insect. Whatever. So where do this animals come from, how to they spread and why? This are some of the questions that run across the minds of many comrades. You will find students from KU, UoN, Moi, Egerton, JKUAT, TUK, TUM, Kimathi, MMUST and all other universities complaining about this little but crazy animals. As team Campus Kings and Queens, we decided to investigate into the matter and through thorough research, we came up with these theories that possibly explain the origin of Kungunis in Hostels. Here we go.
THEORIES
1. Administration Injection Theory.
This theory states that, the bedbugs could have been intentionally injected into the University Hostels by the administration so as to discourage the university students from sleeping for many hours. The main intention being to increase number of hours students use to study and reduce the hours spent sleeping. As you know, in campus, no one will force you to study but if kungunis are used, you will probably prefer to spend more time on that table with a book than spending time scratching your body due to kunguni bites. You will only retire to bed when you are totally exhausted in that, you wont feel any bite.
2. Punishment Theory.
It suggest that bedbugs must have been introduced into hostels by God as a way of discouraging immoral behavior. It is very difficult to do that act on a bed infested by bedbugs. They would occasionally distract you when you are almost liberating KIsimayu, bringing you to square one and finally giving up before bombing the Alshababs at Kisimayu. The theory is also known as the MORALITY THEORY.
3. Travelers theory.
This theory limits the spread of kunguni to those who come from distant places. Those who use long distant buses like Msamaria, Mbukinya, Ugwe, Matunda, Chania and the rest. Since it is within a students desighn to save some shillings they find themselves boarding those cheap, cheap busses that have never seen water or fumigation since 1900...this buses are the perfect breading ground for bedbugs since they have a constant supply of balanced diet. If you know you travel with this buses then you are among the main causes of MICROCOMRADES IN YOUR HOSTEL ROOM.

INNOCENT SOUL EPISODE 9. (SEASONS FINALE)

Silence prevailed the room suddenly. The wind blew again as the lightning stroke. A loud thunder followed. “Dan!” I called as I moved towards the direction they were lying. There was no response. “Dan, Jose!” Still no response. I tried to move faster but stopped suddenly when I stepped on some warm fluid on the ground. I did not lift my legs. I remained rooted on the ground like an electric pole.</a></h4>

EPISODE 9</h3>
My legs started shaking. I felt weak suddenly and started trembling.
 I could feel my whole body vibrating. Sweat started dripping from my 
forehead. The whole room was in a deafening silence. The only sound I 
could hear was the showers of rain from outside and the beating of my 
heart. Darkness had covered everywhere. For a moment, I imagined that I 
was alone in the room. I tried to open my mouth but no sound came out of
 it. Only panting breaths. I really wondered what Frank and his guys had
 done on Dan and Jose. ‘It was all my fault. If only I had agreed to 
cooperate at the first time, no one would have gone through the tortures
 of that day’ I blamed myself. All in all, it had happened and it was my
 duty to save everyone held in Frank’s trap. 
I suddenly felt a hand grip my leg. It was a wet hand. I didn’t know 
how but I gained energy to jump and pull my leg from the hand. “Jose! Ni
 wewe?” I shouted as I rushed towards the switch. I could feel 
excruciating pain in the soles of my legs as I ran over the broken 
pieces of glass on the floor. I was bare footed. But at the moment, that
 was not my concern. I had lives to save, not to pay attention to the 
mare pain I felt. “Dan! Jose!” I called as I turned the lights on. 
I almost fainted when I turned back. My heart stopped momentarily as 
my mouth remained wide open. For a moment, I deprived my lungs of 
oxygen. I thought I was in a dream, a wicked dream indeed. I wished 
someone could come and tell me that all what I was seeing was not real. 
Jose was struggling to stand. His shirt and part of his face was covered
 with blood. He knelt down and looked at his shirt. He looked at his 
hands, they were covered with blood.  He looked puzzled. He turned and 
looked at me. His was worried and confused. I could tell by the way he 
appeared. For the years I had known Jose, I had never ever seen him in 
that state. “Janet!’’ He called me as he tried to swallow some saliva. 
He was also shaking. He turned and looked on the other side, I followed 
his eyes. “Mungu!” He screamed. “Umefanyia nini Dan! Jane!” He tried to 
crawl towards me, me the rate at which he was shaking would not allow 
him. He just remained there, kneeling on the ground helplessly. He 
pointed at me in a furious manner. His hands were shaking too. “Janet 
uligeuka lini? Why? Why?” he shouted. 
“Jose! Si mimi. Ni akina Frank!” I shouted back. He stopped and knelt
 again. He turned and looked at the pool of blood that had covered the 
floor. The blood had flowed from where Dan was lying. He was on the 
floor lying on his stomach, his hands and legs spread in opposite 
directions. He was motionless. He showed no sign of motion. The scene 
had made me confused, not knowing what I was doing nor what I was 
saying. “Jose tuto…” 
“Stop! Usiniongeleshe wewe murderer!” he yelled at me. “Janet I used 
to trust you. With my life, today you turn against me. You kill my 
roommate! Why Ja..” He then stoped suddent. He looked at me nodding his 
head. He then pulled a plastic chair that was near him. He held it and 
supported himself with it. He managed to stand. I looked at Jose, he was
 not the Jose I ever knew. His everlasting smile had disappeared. You 
could not tell that Jose once afforded a broad smile across his handsome
 face. He kept nodding his head, his eyes fixed on me. It was as though 
an idea or rather a clue had just hit his head. 
“Umesema nani amefanya huu unyama Janet?” he asked 
“Ni Frank na…” 
“Na Janet wake!” He interrupted me. “The same Frank niliwapata kule 
kwa lecture hall. Janet I have trusted you for all this time only to end
 up here. You have been lying to me that you love me. Is this what we 
call love? The promises you made to me Janet.. The..” he did not finish.
 He started crying. He cried like a little baby. Tears rolled down his 
cheeks like a water tap. I pitied him. I could also not control my 
tears. 
“Jose acha nikuambie what happened. But first we must find a way out!” I told him. “I have been…” 
“Janet I don’t want to hear anything from you. You are an animal. You
 deserve hell. Janet!” Jose was now trying to scream. I quickly tried to
 move towards him. He moved back with fear. He moved with the chair. 
“Back off Janet. I know you want to kill me too.. Janet please usiniue 
kwanza. Just give me a minute I talk to my mum before you do it. I know 
you are going to kill me too. After all I am a witness. I have witnessed
 murder and for you to cover up, ni lazima uniue…” 
“Jose I have never thought of killing. I have never thought of 
harming anybody. I have just landed in this trouble because I was trying
 to save the innocent souls. Souls that have no sin! Jose please.. cool 
down.?” I told him in a low tone. 
“Stop it Janet. Why is Dan dead?” he asked. This time, in a low tone.
 He whipped his tears and looked on the floor where Dan was lying. He 
shook his head and turned to me. “Janet, why?” 
“Dan died because he came to save you.” I told him simply. 
Jose’s face changed suddenly. He looked pale. He frowned and opened 
his eyes wide. He looked at me as though giving me a stern warning. He 
bit his lower lip. He then nodded his head and pointed at me. 
“You are the one. You wanted to fake my death. You took my insulin. 
Right?” Then you came to make sure that I die! Dan came to my rescue and
 you, plus your stupid Frank killed him. But the question is, why would 
you do this?” he spoke vehemently. 
“Jose, we have no time. Please let us thing of what to do. Dan is dead. He was in the plan of killing you then..” 
“The he changed his mind, and turned against you. He noticed that I 
did not deserve to die. He wanted to save me. Then you killed him!” Jose
 said after interrupting me. 
“Si hivyo Jose.. please listen to what I am going to tell you and believe me.” I told him. 
Time was moving fast. The rain had stopped. The only thing that would
 be heard was the thunder. Jose struggled and reached where Dan was 
lying. He knelt down and turned him. His whole chest was covered with 
blood. His hands were folded as though he was gripping something in 
them. Jose tried to feel hi temperatures around the neck. He shook his 
head. “Dan is dead!” He shouted. I am sure the voice had reached far. He
 cried like a baby. He leaned and listened to his chest. 
“Anabreath?” I asked him anxiously. 
“No madam! You did it perfectly. He is dead. Please when it comes to 
me, do the same. Sitaki kufa pole pole. Kill me quickly.” He said in a 
sarcastic tone. 
“Jose if we don’t act, another innocent person will die. Please listen to me.” I pleaded with him. 
“Who else after me?” He asked while whipping his eyes. 
“Clara! They have gone after her!” 
Mentioning of Clara, Jose looks puzzled. I don’t know where he got 
the energy. He stood up suddenly and started moving towards me. “So Dan 
was right.. He was right. It was true you thought of that.” He said 
pointing at me. He turned back and bit his middle finger. He looked on 
the floor and at a speed of lightning, turned and faced me again. “It is
 about the pregnancy, right?” 
“Yes. It is.” I answered without wasting even a single second. “So 
you knew about that?” I was really surprised that He knew about Clara 
being pregnant yet he hadn’t told me. 
He ignored my question. Instead of answering me, he started talking 
to himself in a low tone. “I wish I had listened to Dan. I am sorry Dan I
 caused your death. I only ningekusikiza” He said while crying. “They 
will pay for this.” He then turned and faced me. His eyes had turned red
 and wider than before. It was the first time I saw the ugly side of 
Jose. “So you also believed Frank. Frank was saying that am responsible 
for Clara’s pregnancy.. Ukamuamini. Ukaona heri ulipize kisasi by 
f***ing him in the lecture hall. Then you planned for my death. Then to 
kill Clara too… Janet! I am not going to let you kill her” he shouted 
Jose looked around the room. His eyes landed on the knife that had 
been used by Frank to stub Dan. He quickly rushed and picked it up. I 
became terrified. He ran passed me and stood at the door. His hands were
 shaking. “Where is Clara?” He shouted while point the knife at me. 
“I don’t know for sure. Please Jose. You are not a murderer and let you not start wit me. I beg you!” I said while crying. 
“Janet sijoke na wewe. You are not going to kill another innocent 
person. Clara’s pregnancy is not mine. I have never cheated on you.” He 
shouted. 
Jose’s statement made me believe how clever Frank was. He had even 
used Dan to give Jose false hints. He had used every bit of his brain to
 arrange the frame. I pitied Jose. I pitied myself and also pitied Clara
 even more. 
“Janet utaniambia place Clara yoko au zii?” He asked while moving 
towards me. He seemed serious and ready to do anything to make me talk. 
I was terrified. I don’t know how but I found myself kneeling on the 
floor, my hands raised up. “I swear sijui..”  I answered while crying. I
 suddenly felt pain on my left cheek and the next thing I realize, I was
 lying on the floor. Jose had given me the first slap ever since I knew 
him. I did not believe it. It was the most painful slap I had ever 
received in my history. He then added me a strong kick while I was on 
the ground. 
“Utasema penye Clara yuko.” He shouted as he pulled me by my hair. I 
am going to make you talk. He then pushed my head back to the floor. I 
knocked the floor with my mouth. I felt pain that I had never felt 
before.  I became weak suddenly. All the happenings were like a dream to
 me. Jose was the last person I ever expected to hit me. I did not 
believe it. Perhaps he was angered by the death of his roommate, which 
he mistakenly attributed to me. And also by the fact that Frank made him
 believe that I was sleeping with him in the lecture hall. 
“Jose utaniua!” I screamed as he pulled my hair. I could see blood dropping from my mouth and nose. 
“Hata Dan amekufa. Pia wewe ku…” He stopped suddenly when my phone 
rang. It was a text message tone. He quickly pushed me back to the floor
 and rushed for my phone. Perhaps he thought the message was from Frank.
 He hoped it would give him a hint on where Clara was being held. Jose 
knew the pattern of my phone lock. He left me on the ground rolling in 
pain and rushed to pick it. 
Within no time, Jose came back panting like an antelope that had just
 escaped from the claws of a lion. “Janet, Janet,. Utaniambia hii namba 
ni ya nani.” He was shaking, sweating and tears dropping from his 
forehead. He knelt before me and pulled my hair. I tried to push him 
back but he overcame me. He held my neck and pointed the phone at me. It
 was a text message from a strange number. It read. 
“Alpha tenaJ, the girl eliminated. Body thrown in river. Hop guy eliminated too and Dan framed. Pay my last money. Omega G!!” 
I almost fainted when I read the text. I tried to speak but I 
couldn’t. Frank had finally succeeded to Frame me. There wasa no way 
that I would  have saved myself. Jose had believed that I had killed 
Dan. 
“Omega ni nani? Najua mnatumia coded language to communicate. Mumeua 
pia Clara..!!! Oh poor Clara!” He cried. “tenaJ ni jina lako reversed. 
Tell me!!” He shouted. 
‘Jose sijui hiyo number, wala Omega.” I answered while crying. “Poor Clara” I said I a low tone as tears increased. 
Jose did not want to listen to any word from me. He pulled me up 
making me I kneel on the broken glassed. He raised the knife high ready 
to stub me. I became terrified I shot up immediately. I didn’t know 
where the energy came from. I quickly held Jose’s hand and we started 
struggling. He tried to push the knife towards me but I did not let go 
his hand. He was also weak. He had not regained fully. It was a matter 
of life and death. All I wanted was to pick the knife from his hands. An
 idea quickly ran down my head. An idea that had worked before! I lifted
 my right knee and knocked him at the same spot I had knocked Frank. He 
suddenly dropped the knife and bent, both his hands between his legs. I 
felt bad that I had hit the man I loved most but I had no other option. I
 quickly bent and picked the knife. I pointed at him, my intention being
 to scare him. “You will now listen to me! You will listen to what I 
tell you. You should believe me, I am not a murderer Jose” I told him as
 I moved towards him. He only raised his head and looked at me. Our eyes
 met. We looked at each other. It was not the usual look we used to look
 at each other. We were not lovers anymore, but great enemies. 
“Never, daughter of a bitch.” Jose shouted as he suddenly rushed 
towards me. The next thing I heard was a loud scream. Scream of pain. 
Jose creamed on top of his voice. I pulled back my hand, pulling the 
knife with me, the blood from his stomach oozed out like a fountain 
heating my face. He held his stomach with both his hands. I had stubbed 
him unwillingly. When he ran towards me, he came in direct contact with 
the knife I was holding with great impact. And Alas! It penetrated his 
poor stomach. 
I remained there, rooted on the ground, my mouth wide open, not 
knowing what to do next. Jose tried to speak to me but he didn’t. He 
lifted his right hand and point Me. He then fell on the ground. I 
started to tremble again. My heart beat loudest. I could hear it. Chill 
ran down my spine as I watches Jose groan. 
“Jose! Jose please.” I tried to call him, still holding the knife. No
 sooner had I dropped the knife than the door flew open. A crowd of 
people entered the room. Among them was Beth, Kate, the guy was guarding
 the door at the lecture hall and three security guards, one of them was
 familiar to me, the one I had passed on the pavement while running from
 the lecture hall. I dropped the knife suddenly. Everyone looked 
surprised. Including Kate and Beth. “Janet umeua Dan!” Kate shouted as 
she cried. 
“Niliwaambia amekuja huku mkaanza kumtafuta kwingine. Ona ashaua wawili” Beth shouted at the guards. 
I tried to speak but no word came out of my mouth, I felt warm fluid 
run down my thighs through my knees to my feet. I felt pain as the fluid
 ran down the cuts on my feet. I turned and looked at Jose, blood had 
covered almost all of his body. He was lying on his back, his eyes on 
me. They were wide open, but not blinking. I did not believe what I had 
done. No! It was not real! I though. “Analieni ka hawajakufa wasaidiwe!”
 one of the security guards shouted. I suddenly felt strong pain on my 
head then on my back, leg, head again and within no time, I was on the 
ground receive kicks and blows from the crowd. The security guards tried
 to protect me but they were overcame as one of them was busy tried to 
see if Jose was dead or alive. I could hear people shouting “Ameua! 
Achomwe.. Ameua! Murderer… Auliwe pia.!”. I had no chance to defend 
myself. I was as helpless as Jose withouth insulin. The fouse faded as 
pain increased. It reached a point where I could not feel, hear, see or 
smell anything.  Another INNOCENT SOUL suffering. 
END OF INNOCENT SOUL PART ONE. TO GOD BE THE GLORRY

INNOCENT SOUL EPISODE 8

I held him by the left one and we started struggling to lift him. Suddenly, behind us, the door flew open. My heart skipped a bit. I felt hot saliva in my mouth as chill ran down my spine. We quickly returned Jose to the floor. Dan looked at me. Our eyes met. We looked at each other as though asking ‘umesikia hiyo?’ He also looked terrified. We heard some footsteps approaching us from behind. Before were could turn and look at the door, the lights went off.</a></h4>

EPISODE 8</h3>
 
I quickly let go Jose’s shoulder and turned. The wall room had been 
engulfed by darkness. All I could hear was some multiple footsteps 
approaching us. I was confused. My heart started racing again. Dan stoop
 up and shouted. “Ni nani?” No one responded.
 I also stood up and moved away towards the bed. Suddenly, I heard Jose 
cough three times. I felt like going back to him but fear could not 
allow me. I started trembling again. Chill ran down my spine. I was 
confused. 
“Dan, ni nani?” I asked in a low tone. Still no one responded. Not 
even Dan. Jose coughed again. The wind blew the curtains of the window. 
Some lights from the back of the hostel penetrated the room. Now I could
 see three figures. They were three people. All had hoods on their 
heads. I could not recognize them. I saw done moving back too. “Hey, si 
mjitambulishe!” he shouted. Still no one responded. 
The wind kept blowing. I looked at the ground, I could see the figure
 of Jose struggling to get up. I looked at him as tears dropped from my 
swollen eyes. I wanted to help him. I really pitied him. He did not 
deserve the pain he was going through. I tried to move towards him but I
 stopped suddenly when I saw a figure of a person approaching me. My 
saliva become hot and bitter. I could hear my heart beat. “Usinisongee!”
 I shouted. I saw the other two persons move towards Dan. None of them 
spoke.  Dan kept moving back until he reached the wall. I could hear the
 cracking of the pieces of glass as the persons walked over the broken 
bottle that I had broken. Jose was left behind, helplessly trying to 
rise. 
Suddenly, a very bright light penetrated the room. Not long 
afterwards, a loud thunder followed, then showers of rain set in. It 
started slowly and within no time, it turned into a huge storm filled 
with thunder and lightning. The intensity of the darkness increased as 
the curtains closed. I could now see nothing part from the flash light 
that stroke the curtains. Water from the roof could be heard dropping on
 the pavement behind the hostel. The sound of the dropping water, the 
wind and showers of rain took control. I could hardly hear anything. 
“Mtu asiniguze!” I heard Dan shout. “Niacheni!” I heard some objects 
fall on the ground. More fear engulfed me. I was about to take heel when
 I felt a huge arm grip my wrist. “Niache! Niache! Jos..” I tried to 
shout when my mouth was suddenly covered. I struggled to free myself but
 the person was so strong. I felt a warm breath near my left ear, then I
 whisper followed. “You are never clever Janet!” I quickly recognized 
the voice. It was Frank. I almost collapsed. I had fallen into his arms 
again. “Wewe Malaya ulinipiga ukaniumiza, ukakata mikono ya friend 
wangu. Sasa hapa hujitoi. No one will rescue you. I still insist you 
call Clara!” He whispered. I tried to speak but I could not. His hand 
had covered my mouth. Behind me, I could hear movements on the floor. 
Someone was moving towards us. I sensed that it was Jose. Frank quickly 
dragged me to the other side of the room behind Jose’s bed. We faced the
 door. 
It was still raining heavily. Thunder and lightning still taking the 
control of the whole environment. A strong wind blew and the curtains 
flew open again. I could now see Dan struggling with the other two 
people. One of the guys was holding him from behind and the other tried 
to hold Dan’s legs. They were near the window. I looked on the floor, I 
saw Jose seated. It seemed to me that he was not in his senses, despite 
of all the struggles, he never seemed to bother. Perhaps the fainting 
had affected his thing capacity. After all, he had just recovered. 
“Angalia huyo kwa floor. Amefufuka!” Frank shouted to the other guys.
 One of them, one who was trying to hold Dan’s legs, let go the legs and
 walked towards Jose. I wished that I could prevent him but I was 
helpless. I then heard a loud bang the followed a loud groan of someone 
in pain. The wind stopped and the curtains closed again; Darkness. I was
 not really sure who the person was. Was it Jose? Had he been knocked by
 the other guy? Or was it Dan? Or one of the guy? I tried to bite 
Frank’s hand but he was defended himself by letting go my hand then 
holding my throat firmly. “Nitakuua!” he shouted as he tried to strangle
 me. I almost lost air when he let me he stopped. He held my ear then 
pulled it. “Una kichwa ngumu ka Malaya Mwaenzako. Na hii kinyangarika 
inaitwa Dan inajaribu kunisaliti. Sikutaka ifikie hapa but I will be 
forced to. Will you talk to Clara?” He asked while letting my mouth 
free. I took a deep breath then tried to move away from him, 
unfortunately, he quickly held my hand and pulled me back. “Unaenda 
wapi!” he shouted. 
I could clearly hear some struggles. It was as though there was a 
great fight. I heard the cracking of the glasses as they stepped on 
them. Then the table fell on the ground loudly. “Munaniulizia nini mbwa 
nyinyi?” I heard Dan ask. The struggle became intense. 
“Wee! Kuna nini?” Frank shouted. 
“Ni huyu jamaa anajaribu kujifanya mwerevu. Amenigongesha kwa ukuta!” One of the guys said in an agonizing tone. 
“Niaje mtu mmoja atawashinda watu wawili. Dan usnitie hasira. 
Ushanisaliti. Ungeacha hii nyang’au ikufe. Huwezikula peasa zangu then 
unisaliti. Nitakufunza adabu!” Frank shouted. The next thing I felt was 
excruciating pain on my left cheek. He had given me a magical slap. He 
let we go the kicked me from the back. I fell on the ground and started 
rolling in pain. I heard him walk quickly where the struggle was. 
“Frank hamfanyi poa. Hhttp://storiafrica.blogspot.co.ke/2015/09/innocent-soul-episode-7.htmlawa wasee hawajawafanyia any!” Dan shouted loudly while crying. 
“Ungeniambia hivyo kabla hujakula doo zangu!” Frank shouted as he 
opproached him. The next thing I heard was a loud scream from Dan. I 
heard him fall on the floor. The ground vibrated. 
“Janet Nimekufaa!! Nimeuliwaa!” he creid in pain. I tried to gather 
some strength and collected myself from the flow by holding the bed. I 
heard Jose cough. Dan’s Voice was fading as he cried. “Nimekufaaa! Frank
 umeniua!” he cried. 
“Tokeni twende tumalizie huyo Malaya. Janet utaozea Jela!” Frank shouted as they headed towards the door. 
“Na wakisurvive?” I heard one of the guys ask Frank in a low tone. 
“Hawezi! Twendeni.” Frank shouted. The next thing I heard was the 
door closing. They had left. Silence prevailed the room suddenly. The 
wind blew again as the lightning stroke. A loud thunder followed. “Dan!”
 I called as I moved towards the direction they were lying. There was no
 response. “Dan, Jose!” Still no response. I tried to move faster but 
stopped suddenly when I stepped on some warm fluid on the ground. I did 
not lift my legs. I remained rooted on the ground like an electric pole.

He then stopped suddenly when he saw me raising the bottle high 
above. He became frightened. He lifted up his hands and started moving 
backwards. His eyes changed from excitement to a look of innocence. I 
remained there, glued to the ground not knowing what to do next. My hands started shaking. They were still high above, firmly holding the bottle. 
“Janet please. Please Janet!” Dan whispered as he moved backwards. 
“Usiniue kwanza. I know I deserve to die. But please let me help Jose 
first then let you kill me.” 
His tone had changed. He sounded more innocent than ever before.  He 
started crying. His hands still raised above in a surrendering manner. I
 also started crying. I did not view him as Dan. He was an enemy and I 
had lost all trust in him. I was to hit him anyway. “Dan hakuna. Jose 
amekufa. Unataka tu kunidanganya ndo nisikugonge.” I shouted at him as I
 moved toward him. 
“Haiya! Wait kiasi” Dan said as he lowered his right hand. The left hand remained raised in the air. He looked at me keenly. 
“Unatry kudo nini Dan? What do you want to do?” As I asked as moved 
quickly towards him. I was observing his right hand. Perhaps he wanted 
to draw a weapon. I was also terrified but I did not want to show him 
that I was somehow afraid of him. “Try do something stupid and you will 
regret it. I swear!” 
“It is ok Janet.” He said lifting up his right hand. “I have no 
intension to hurt you. If I had, I would have done it before. Jose 
hajadie. Let us save him kwanza.” He said in a low tone. 
“Acha kujifanya kondoo yet wewe ni mbwa mwitu. Sahizi ndo unajifanya 
kujua Jose deserves to leave?” I asked him in a furious tone. “Dan you 
and your gang are animals. Hata siamini that this is really happening. I
 just hope it is a dream.” I added. 
Dan looked at me then looked at Jose. He shook his head sadly. He 
looked at me again, bent his head sideway then said “Janet, we have to 
do something. La sivyo, we are going to lose him.” he kept his eyes 
fixed on me, certainly, to measure my reaction. “Do you really know what
 losing Jose mean?” he asked. 
“Ungejiuliza kabla uingie kwa hii deal” I answered him rudly. 
“Si kwangu. Kwako wewe. Jose akifa you will go through a lot.” 
“Ni sawa. Mshamuua tayari doggy nyinyi?” I shouted at him. I looked 
at Jose, he was still motionless. I pitied him. He was paying for the 
sins he did not commit. Pain was still haunting me. I felt extremely 
cold. At the same time, I was sweating. My heart was beating at a fast 
rate as tears kept flowing. May eyes had swollen. I even thought I would
 die of crying. I had cried for ours since the whole event begun. 
“Acha kuniblame kwanza!” Dan shouted at me. “Let us save this poor 
guy. Hutaelewa.” He seemed angry. He looked at me as though he was 
planning an attack on me. His face had frowned. He was indeed sad. 
“Listen Janet,” He lowered his tone. “Najua nafaa kufa. But sitaki kufa 
na blood of an innocent soul on me. Huwezi elewa why I did that. Please,
 let me save Jose then nipige magoti unipige nife. Am ready to die. I 
know I deserve to. But pliz, I beg you. Let me save Jose.” 
“No! Dan you are lying to me. You want to frame me more!” I cried. 
“Janet, if I say you want Jose to die will I be lying?” He said while
 making some steps towards me. “You don’t love Jose. Right? I can tell 
it from the way you are resisting” 
Dan’s words tormented me. I felt fire burn inside my heart. I forgot 
where I was. I went in another world. A world of sorrow, pain, regret, 
hatred and agony. I felt as though I was numb. My eyes become dim. I was
 not thinking anymore. All I was hearing was the echo of Dan’s voice. 
‘Janet, if I say you want Jose to die will I be lying? You don’t love 
Jose. Right? I can tell it from the way you are resisting.’ The voice 
kept on repeating. I felt like a mad person. I imagined that I was 
strangling Jose. I saw Jose dying in my hands. Jose the one I loved. I 
heard his voice beg me to let him go. But I was still strangling him. He
 tried to push me but I was strong.. I was strangling him. Foam was 
foaming around his mouth. His eyes were turning white. He was becoming 
weak. I was killing him. Killing the one I love.  “NOOO!!” I shouted on 
top of my voice. “I love him. I love Jose, I can’t kill him. Not me. 
Siweziii. Nampenda. Dan nampenda Jose!” 
I was shouting like a mad woman. I was shaking more vigorously. The 
next think I head was the breaking of the bottle. It had fallen from my 
hands. The pieces of glass spread all over the rom. I quickly ran 
towards the wall. I started knocking the wall. I knocked it with my 
blow, my forehead. I was not in my senses. Killing Jose was something 
that had never crossed my mind. Not even once. We had argued with Jose 
before, not even once, but I had never even thought of harming him. I 
loved him. He was nice, not only to me but to all. He was generous 
despite of the fact that he was poor. I loved him. He was more than a 
lover to me. He was like a parent to me. I loved his politeness, he 
never raised his voice unless someone crossed my lines. Jose was like a 
god to me. “I love Jose. I love Jose!” I shouted as I knocked the door. 
“Janet! Janet! Wewe Janet!” I heard a voice calling me. It was like a
 reverb voice. I thought I had fallen in a deep pit. Suddenly, I heard 
someone shaking me from behind. The hands were on my shoulders. I was 
being shaked vigorously. “Janet!” The voice was now louder. 
Suddenly, my senses resumed. I turned at a speed of lightning. My 
eyes met with Dan’s eyes. “Janet relax. Najua unapenda Jose. Nishamdunga
 sixty units of insulin and atakuwa poa soon.” Dan told me. He was 
holding my shoulders. I did not say a word. I was confused. I did not 
know what I was actually thinking. “You can now go ahead and kill me 
Janet. That is what I deserve.” Dan said while crying. “I am an animal. 
You were right when..” he kept quiet suddenly then looked at me. His 
face changed. “Janet, are you ok?” he asked me looking very surprised. I
 only nodded my head. Dan stretched his hand and touched my nose, he 
then showed me his fingers. They were red with blood. I bent down and 
all I could see was blood dripping from my nose. I was nose bleeding. 
 Perhaps I had injured myself when I was knocking my forehead on the 
wall. I tried to fold my fingers, they were also painful. 
“Am sorry,” Dan told me. He dipped his hand in the pocket and removed
 a handkerchief. He went to the other side of the room and dipped it in 
the water. He then gave me to place it on my forehead. He pulled my hand
 and led to his bed. As I sat on the bed, my eyes landed on Jose. Beside
 him, was a bottle of insulin and a syringe. I almost jumped up in 
happiness when I saw him move his hand. I tried to shot up but Dan 
pulled me back. “You are bleeding. You also need to rest a bit. Jose 
will be ok.” He said while smiling. 
For the first time after many hours of sorrow, I afforded a smile. 
“Thank you Dan.” I forced myself to thank him. “Nilikuwa nafikiria Jose 
amedie. Look!” I shouted as I pointed at Jose, he is trying to move his 
head!” I was excited. I almost hugged Dan when I remembered that it was 
still his fault. He was just trying to clean up his mess. “Itatake how 
long ndo Jose awe normal?” I asked him. He was sitting beside me on his 
bed. 
“Not long. I pray arudi normal haraka before Frank waingie hapa. 
Najua ananitafuta kwa simu na next destination itakuwa hapa. Nimezima 
simu yangu.” Dan told me. 
“Nilimpiga ndo nikahepa!” I told him simply. My eyes were still on my
 love on the floor. I was monitoring he progress closely. He still 
looked as handsome as I saw him for the first time. Despite of the 
condition. 
“Niliona ukimpiga.” Dan answered. 
“Uliona!!?” I was surprised. I turned and looked at him. He did not looke at  me. “How?” I asked. 
“Nilikuwa somewhere close. Believe me, ningeingilia ka angeanza kukuhurt” he told me. 
“Umusave kunudunga kisu au? You mean ungoje hadi kisu kingie kwa tumbo yangu ndo unisave?” I asked sacarstically. 
“Zii” Frank hangekudunga. Hata  Mike hange allow?” He answered. 
“Mike ndo who?” I asked him though he seemed not interested with my questions. 
“Yule boy alikuwa akichunga mlango. Ni second year. But si wa hii 
campus. Frank hired them. Pamoja na yule boy alipick Clara. So humjui. “
 Dan answered. He was rubbing his hands. His mind was far. I could tell 
from how he was talking. 
“Na basi mbona hukuja kusave Jose. Ukaamua kuwatch cinema nikipitishiwa hell!” I asked sacarstically. 
“Janet, ulikuwa in a bigger danger than Jose. Frank anatumia drugs 
and zinaezamdanganya afanye anything. He is under drugs and stress. For a
 long time,” Dan answered my question while looking at me. “Hiyo ball ya
 Clara imechizisha Frank. Nimeamini leo!” he said in a low tone. Silent 
prevailed for about minute, Dan kept on rubbing his hands together while
 biting his lower lip. 
“I thought umesema hangenihurt? Anyway, Na mbona Dan ukakubali ku 
betray your roommate. Do u think Jose will ever trust you?” I suddenly 
broke the silence. 
“Janet,” Dan started. “kuna time nilikuwa nimesota and I desperately 
needed money. So niliendea Frank nikamshoo anikopeshe pesa. When I 
approached him, he told me that hakopeshi doo but ana job. At first I

 my right hand. He then turned and looked at me, I turned and looked at 
him too. Our eyes met. He lifted my hand and kissed it. “Am sorry 
Janet!” He whispered. 
“It is ok!” I whispered back then pulled my hand from his. I turned 
and looked at Jose. “Dan. Look!” I shouted at Dan while pointing at 
Jose. Jose was struggling to wake up. “Acha tumsaidie” I said while 
pulling Dan. I was already standing. I dropped the wet handkerchief, not
 caring whether I had stopped nose bleeding or not. Dan responded 
quickly and we rushed towards Jose. He was really trying to stand up. 
His eyes were still closed though. “Mshikie hapo kwa mabega tumpeleke 
kwa bed.” I shouted in excitement. 
Dan bent and held Jose by the right shoulder. I held him by the left 
one and we started struggling to lift him. Suddenly, behind us, the door
 flew open. My heart skipped a bit. I felt hot saliva in my mouth as 
chill ran down my spine. We quickly returned Jose to the floor. Dan 
looked at me. Our eyes met. We looked at each other as though asking 
‘umesikia hiyo?’ He also looked terrified. We heard some footsteps 
approaching us from behind. Before were could turn and look at the door,
 the lights went off.

EPISODE 6</h3>
I shouted on top of my voice. Still he showed no sign of motion. I 
tried to shake him. He was stiff. Stiff like a tree trunk. I looked at 
his face, it was pale. Foam had increased around his mouth. I could not 
control my tears. I was like a mad person 
whose madness had just increased by a thousand percentage. I stood up 
not knowing what to do next. My head span like a whirlwind. I scratched 
my hair while making endless movements in the room. I tried to look 
around, hoping for a miracle to happen. A miracle that would make me 
find Jose’s insulin. I went straight to his suitcase. Everything had 
been removed from it. I tried to dip my hands an every possible opening 
that the suitcase had. There was nothing. I knelt down, turned back and 
locked at Jose. I was surprised to see him turn and lay by his left 
side. I saw him stretch his legs, hands and neck tightly. Then his eyes 
become white as he started shaking and trembling. He passed out more 
foam than I had ever seen before. I don’t know how but I found myself 
just beside him. Trying to hold his rather numb hand. 
“Jose, ni Janet please. Jose listen to me. Usikufe!!” I shouted while
 holding his hands. His fingers were stiff. It seemed as though he was 
hearing me. He was trying to open his mouth but it was hard for him. 
“Jose please ongea.. Please say something.” I kept on shouting. Still
 no word came out of him.  I was confused. I didn’t know what to do. 
Foam increased around his mouth. It started to drop on the floor. Slowly
 his eyes started closing. The little motion he was making stated 
decreasing. ‘Is he dying?’ I wondered as tears kept rolling down my 
cheeks. 
I looked at Jose. My dying Jose. Pain ran down my spine as I saw the 
innocence in him. He was suffering for something he had no idea of. I 
wished I had never met him. Maybe I would have saved him from the pain 
and suffering he was going through. I hated Frank, Kate Beth and Jose’s 
roommate. They were real animals. How could they have done this? Why 
could they have made us go through all these? I felt like bursting. I 
watched Jose as he struggled to take his final breath. I wished I could 
have a chance to save him. I now started to cry loudly. My voice 
increased as Jose’s breath decrease. I pitied him. 
My mind flashed back to the happy moments we shared. The hugs, 
kisses, listening to our best hits, the outings, the hill climbing while
 at his home, the races we took together, the promises he made to me and
 those that i made to him. I did not want to watch him die. Jose was 
dying knowing that am a betrayer. I had no chance to explain to him. I 
had broken his heart. I had failed him. I wished I had agreed to 
convince Clara. For that I could have saved him. What about the baby in 
her? I was torn into a million pieces. My head become hot. I almost 
collapsed. All I wanted was to get out of the room. Never to come back 
again. 
I slowly knelt and bent my head, kissed Jose’s forehead and stood up.
 I made three steps towards the door then turned and looked at him. He 
laid there motionless. The innocent soul of my lover, brother, better 
half, friend, companion and listener had been taken away. It was my time
 to think on how I will save myself from the trap, save Clara and save 
the innocent soul in her. I looked at Jose for the last time. I could 
hear the voice of some dogs barking from the other side of the school. 
The whole hostel was silent. It was as though everyone was aware that 
Jose was no more. I turned again and faced the door, I hoped no one 
would see me come from Jose’s room. I prayed not to be seen because that
 could have increased the number of witnesses proving that I had indeed 
killed Jose. 
“Jose nisamehe. Lakini usiwasamehe wao. Hope ukifika huko utanisaidia
 kufight. Bye my love. May God lead you to eternal peace” I said as I 
whipped my eyes. I reached the door and pulled it using my left hand. My
 right hand was on the switch on the wall next to the door. I switched 
off the lights and quickly stepped out of the room. 
My heart almost came into a stop when my forehead come into direct 
contact with someone’s forehead. It was dark outside the door. The 
security light was off. I almost emptied my bladder when I felt a wide 
hand grab me by the mouth and pulled me. I tried to scream but the rough
 hand was very energetic. I tried to get myself out of the hands but my 
efforts bore no fruits. I was pulled like a paper and suddenly I heard a
 worm breath near my right ear then followed a whisper. “Janet, please 
corporate. Nataka kukuhelp” 
I quickly recognized the voice. It was Dan, Jose’s roommate. I almost
 bust into a loud scream but my mouth had been tightly covered. I tried 
to break loose from his hands but he quickly pushed me towards the door.
 He held me using one hand and pushed the door with the other hand. 
After opening the door, he heavily pushed me inside the room that I 
stopped near the place Jose was lying. He then quickly followed. He 
reached the switch and turned on the lights. I quickly turned and looked
 at him. He seemed shocked and terrified. He looked at Jose, then looked
 at me. He shook his head. 
“Acha kujifanya umeshtuka Dan. Ni nyinyi mmeua Jose!” I told him 
while crying. “Yaani Dan unaezafanyia roommate wako hivi? Heaven and 
earth will never forgive you” I said as I whipped my tears. “Umesahau 
all the many times Jose alikuhelp?” 
“Jose Amekufa!” Dan shouted as he ran towards Jose. He then bent down
 and started shaking him. “Jose, Jose pliz. Sikujua itafika hapa. Amka 
man. Joseee! Acha hizi man” He kept calling as he shook him. Sweat 
started dripping from his forehead. He was confused. “Janet come inisave
 tumuamshe!” He pleaded with me. Tears had started flowing down his 
cheeks. “Janet si ukam pliz” He insisted. 
“Dan there is nothing you can do to save him. Mshamuua. Uliiba 
insulin yake. Stop pretending that you care” I said as I cried. I 
quickly bent where Jose was. Dan lifted his eyes and looked at me. His 
eyes had already turned red. “Ni Frank na akina Beth. Walisema 
tunakutisha t undo ucorperate” He told me. He was on his knees but still
 trembling that I thought he would fall. 
“Eeeh. Ndo nicorperate kuua. Hata sasa mmoja ashakufa. Na wengi 
watakufa including me. and you know that Dan. Stop playing an angel,” I 
told him. 
“Si mimi Janet. Mimi Frank Alinipa tu tenga mbili akanishoo nichukuwe
 insulin na simu ya Jose then tutarudisha. Ati ilikuwa kukutishia tu 
Janet!” Dan cried. “Si mimi aki. Si idea yangu plz.” 
“Pia wewe Dan. You were in the plan and you helped them. The blood of
 Jose is on you. “ I told him as I raised my head. I thought of revenge.
 I wanted the people responsible to pay for their mistakes. And I had 
Dan with me. I was angry with him. He played innocent but he was one of 
them. Maybe he was just terrified that Jose was dead. Maybe he did not 
expect the deal to reach that extend. Or he may had just came back to 
plant more evidence so that they could frame me more and more. The 
thought of him bringing more evidence made me mad. I rather go in prison
 for a crime I committed than be framed. I decided to deal with him 
there and then. 
I turned and looked back. My eyes landed on my handbag. That is when I
 remembered that I had forgotten my handbag in the room. I rushed and 
grabbed it. I then rushed to my phone and pressed some buttons. All was 
set. I then tried to look around the room. I saw a one liter coca cola 
bottle at the other corner. The bottle was empty. I turned and threw a 
glance at Dan. He was still playing innocent. He had bent on Jose trying
 to perform some miracles on him which I did not care. I walked straight
 to the far end and firmly grabbed the bottle of soda. I turned and at a
 speed of lightning, I ran towards him. My aim being to smash his round 
head with the bottle. He had to answer some questions before I kill him. 
Within no time, I was beside him. He did not raise his head. He had 
bent on Jose’s chest with his left ear down. He was probably trying to 
listen to Jose’s heartbeat. I looked at him. I did not view him as Dan 
anymore. I viewed him as an enemy. Just like Frank, Beth, Kate and the 
other guy. Despite to the fact that he behaved as though he was 
regretting his actions. As though he was on my side, I had no trust in 
him. Not after him betraying my love. My only love, Jose. I now viewed 
him as a murderer. And once a killer, always a killer. All I wanted to 
do was eliminate him. I quickly raised the bottle high above and looked 
at him. I aimed his head. I then closed my eyes ready to kill. I was 
sure that the bottle would kill him. I would silently count one to three
 before I could call his name and order him to answer some questions. 
What if he’d fight back? I thought. I decided not to ask him. I would 
only silently count one to three then knock his head on the count of 
three. 
Before I said three and land the bottle on him, he quickly jumped up 
and shouted. “Janet, Janet, Jose hajakufa! Anabreath! Nimesikia 
heartbeat”

EPISODE 5</h3>
I turned at a lightning speed. I don’t know how but I managed to give
 him the best slap I have ever produced in my life. He let go my hand. 
He held is face with both hands while making 
some turns. I knew I had hurt him. At that moment, my senses started 
resuming. I noticed that my bra was still loose, my top had only one 
button. The one that was loose when Frank pulled it. To my surprise, my 
skirt was still above my waist. I dropped it quickly. I did not want to 
lose any chance, all I wanted was to get out of that room. I wanted to 
run and find Jose. I wanted to explain everything to him. I wanted to 
tell him before his sugar level could rise. 
Jose was diabetic. He survived on insulin injection. He injected 
himself daily and whenever his blood sugar would raise. The level was 
triggered by different factors, high tension and stress being one of the
 factors. My heart was racing. I was panting like an overloaded donkey 
trying to climb some hiss in Limuru. Sweat dripped from my head, despite
 to the fact that it was cold. All the events that were happening on 
that day had made me insane. I was in a turmoil. I knew that Jose’s 
sugar level must have risen especially after the encounter. 
Frank was still holding his face, probably I had hit his eyes. I 
looked back and saw my handbag. I quickly turned back to pick it and 
rushed towards the door. Darkness had started to set in. The campus 
security lights were now on. No sooner had I reached the door, than it 
was locked from outside. We were locked inside. Frank and I. I sensed 
danger. Frank removed his hands from his face. His left eye was red, 
swollen and tears was dropping from eat. He looked at me furiously. He 
went straight to the point where the jumper was, he lifted it and picked
 the knife that had been hidden under it. I almost emptied my bladder 
when I set my eyes on the knife. 
“Wewe Malaya ni mimi umeumiza hivi?” He roared as he approached me. “Utatambua leo mbona kuku huwa hainyori” 
I started moving back as he approached me. I moved back until I 
landed on the wall. “Za sakafuni huishia ukingoni” He said while rubbing
 his left eye with his left hand. In his right hand, he was holding the 
knife. He had gripped it firmly. I was shaking. His blood veins could 
still be seen on the forehead although darkness had started filling the 
room and the lights had not been switched on. 
“Frank niache. Umenitesa leo vya kutosha” I said while crying. 
“Unalia na sijakuguza?” he asked. “Janet, umejifanya una nguvu. Right?” 
I kept quiet. I did not speak to him. All I was doing was crying. 
Tears dropped from my eyes like rain. My eyes had started swelling. I 
started moving sideways. I was really hoping and praying that someone 
would come to my rescue. Suddenly, an idea ran down my rather numb mind.
 I thought of screaming. I believed that the security officers of the 
school had started to make their initial patrol and probably they could 
hear me scream and come to my rescue. I was sure that that would work. 
And even if Frank would have stubbed me, he would not have escaped. 
Before I could cream, Frank walked away from me and went straight to 
the switch. He turned the lights on. He then went straight to the door 
and shook it while shouting. “Fungua!”. The other guy slowly opened the 
door. Frank talked to him and I could see the guy handing some items to 
Frank. It was a white substance. He held it on his palm and sniffed. He 
then shook his head as he whipped his nose. Frank then returned the 
substance to the guy and ordered him  to close the door from outside. 
“Na ukae rada!” he told the guy. 
“Janet, nataka kukushoo Kitu.” Frank said as he moved towards me. 
“Najua unajiona umeshinda sana. But unfortunately, bado uko far from 
winning. I still hold on that you talk to Clara.    Ok?” He said as he 
approached me. 
“Heri uniue. Siongei na Clara. I can’t convince her. Son of a bitch!” I yelled. 
“Do you still love Jose?” He asked, his blood red eyes fixed on me. I
 kept quiet. I did not respond. All I was looking for was a savior. 
Someone who would save me from Frank. I had hoped that Jose would save 
me. Unfortunately, Frank became smart enough and framed me. 
“Ok, usijibu.” Frank said. “I know you love Jose and you can do 
anything to save him. Unfortunately, time is counting and within no 
time, Jose will be dead. And do you know blame itakuwa kwa nani? Kwako!”
 He was now smiling as he talked. He kept on nodding his head like a mad
 man. Frank had never been like this before, I was real surprised. I 
pinched my skin to make sure that I was not dreaming. Surely, I was not.
 It was happening in real time. Clara had been taken hostage, now it was
 me. I had been framed and Jose, the one I hoped to save me, had walked 
from me.  I didn’t blame him either, if I were him, I would have done 
the same. Now he was somewhere probably suffering from high sugar level. 
“There is no way utaua Jose na useme ni mimi. That is the hardest thing u would do,” I told him confidently. 
“Jose is diabetic. I know that. And I am very sure that after what he
 has experienced, his sugar level is extremely high now. He is now 
somewhere busy looking for his insulin and syringe!” Frank laughed 
sarcastically as he told me. 
“You son of a bitch.” I shouted at the top of my voice. Frank quickly
 rushed towards me, dropped the knife and held me by the neck with one 
hand, and covered my mouth with the other hand. I tried to bite him but 
he was too strong. He pressed his blow in my mouth that I could not move
 my jaws, he then led his mouth near my ears and whispered, “Jose’s 
insulin is not in his room. It is somewhere safe. A place that could be 
associated with you. So if Jose die, it will be said that you did all 
the things to kill him. Did you see those girls, they were recording 
everything. Beth took a video with her phone. Jose’s phone and insulin 
are at the same place, a place that you have your belongings too. So you
 have to decide, either to save     Jose, or leave him to die then you 
end up in prison.” He then laughed. 
Frank’s words made me weak. I thought of what would happen to Jose. 
              They had stolen his phone, then his insulin. I knew that 
Jose was in trouble. I had to save him. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I 
pitied him. 
“So what do you want me to do?” I asked Frank when he removed his hand from my mouth. 
“Obvious, to convince Clara. I don’t know why Clara believes that you
 are the only one who can convince her. Tell her to do what I want then I
 will order my men and women to give Jose his insulin. Time is not on 
your side madam Janet” Frank said, letting go my neck. “Una seconds kumi
 za ku decide.” He told me 
I become more confused. I pitied Jose. He was suffering for something
 he wasn’t supposed to. I almost collapsed when a thought of him dead 
ran across my mind. I was also worried for being framed for his death. 
So I had two good reasons for saving Jose; one, I loved him and two, to 
avoid being framed. Frank had played a clever game. He was smart, I 
admitted. But all in all, I had to save Jose before it was too late. 
Even if I were to talk to Clara, I was not sure whether Frank will give 
Jose the insulin or not. All I blamed was Jose’s roommate, he must have 
been in the plan. He was the only person who knew Jose used insulin. No 
one else knew apart from me and him. Not even Jose’s friends. 
Time was not static. It was moving very fast. I could tell by the 
darkness that had now engulfed the places where there was no security 
lights. Frank was standing in front of me. His eyes were fixed on me. 
They had bulged. I wonder what effects the substance he had sniffed had 
on his eyes. “Four seconds remaining, three, two…” he counted. 
Before he could reach one, I lifted my right knee with all force I 
could afford. I used it to knock the area between his legs. He bent very
 fast with his hands at the area I had knocked. I quickly bent and 
picked the knife that he had dropped on the floor. Frank gave a loud 
scream. It was filled with pain. The other guy opened the door and 
rushed in faster. He rushed to rescue Frank. When he arrived, He found 
my hands high holding the knife ready to land it on Frank’s back. He 
quickly jumped to the knife. He held the sharp edges. He then gave a 
loud groan. Suddenly, I saw blood oozing from his hand. 
“Amenikata!” He cried. 
Frank could not withstand the pain. He fell on the ground and started
 rolling and groaning in pain. “Mshike!” He shouted as I rushed towards 
my hand bag. 
“Amenikata mikono yote!” The guy shouted at Frank. I quickly dropped 
the knife, grabbed my handbag and dashed out of the lecture room. I left
 them moaning and groaning. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me. I 
was glad that I was out of the room, but my worry was on Jose and Clara.
 Will I save them? As I ran across the pavement, I came across a 
security guard. He tried to stop me but I had no time to waste. 
“Msichana!” I could hear him shout at me as I disappeared in the darkness. 
I was finally outside Jose’s room. My heart was racing. Sweat 
dripping from my forehead. All I was hoping for was for Jose to be 
alive. The door was closed. I knocked hard but no one responded. I 
quickly pushed it and thank God it was not locked from inside. I quickly
 entered not knowing what to find. 
Alas!  I did not believe my eyes when I found Jose lying on the 
floor. His mouth was covered with form. My heart skipped several beats 
and I ran out of breath. The room was in a mess. I guess Jose had been 
looking for his insulin everywhere. All the books, clothes, sheets, 
personal items and plates were scattered on the floor. The mattress had 
been overturned and the blankets thrown on his roommate’s bed. I almost 
fainted. I pitied his innocent soul. His roommate was not inside. 
I quickly rushed towards him. I knelt down and started shaking him while crying and screaming his name. “Jose!” No response. 
“Jose my love!” He did not move. “Somebody heeelp” I shouted. There was still no motion. 
“Joseeeee!”

EPISODE 4</h3>
I then closed my eyes. All I was waiting for was to feel the knife 
penetrate my chest if not my stomach. In my mind, I knew that was going 
to be my last breath. At least, I would die 
knowing that I loved Jose. God would receive me in heaven for protecting
 the innocent soul that I guess, was enjoying the warmth of its mother’s
 womb. Oblivious of the happenings around it. But would have I have 
saved it really? Clara would also be killed. And her death meant only 
one thing, the death of the baby too. All in all, I had no reason to 
regret. The choice I had taken was worth it. I loved Jose. The wall, the
 chairs, my handbag and even Frank, who was going to take away my life, 
knew it. They had all heard me scream the words. 
Suddenly, I heard a loud bang. I opened my eyes abruptly. The first 
place to hold was my left side of the chest. I felt my hand move to the 
rhythm of my beating heart.  I then found myself siting on seat that was
 just behind me. I felt weak. The loud bang was from the sudden opening 
of the door. Someone opened it suddenly, run towards us shouting. “Boss,
 sareee!! Kunakujwa.” The guy was panting like an antelope that had just
 escaped from the cheetah’s claws. “Frank Sare”, He said again. “Kuna 
wasee wanakam hivi. Madem wawili na boy mmoja.” He added. Breathing very
 hard. 
Frank’s hand was just close to me. He was shaking. The veins on his 
forehead were larger than you could imagine. He was really trembling. 
Tears rolled from his eyes. He had gripped the knife strongly. The only 
people who used to hold the knife that way, were the people who 
circumcised boys in Bungoma. I had witnessed that one August when Jose 
had taken me to his village to meet his parents. I did not believe that I
 was alive. Just the imagination of the knife being deep in my chest 
made me feel dead. So this is how dead people feel! I thought. Of coz I 
was not dead. I was breathing. Harder than how I breathe the day my 
virginity was stolen. 
“Maze ungeniacha nimalizie hii kitu!” Frank said, bitting his lower lip. “Hii Malaya tungeimalizia.” He added. 
“Zii. Hatungejitoa. Nashuku huyo boy ako na madem ni Jose. Kaa radar.
 Take cover.” The other guy told him. He grabbed the knife from his hand
 and folded it in the jumper. 
“Ati Jose? Hii fala inatafuta nini huku. Najua ni hii Malaya yake 
inasaka. “ Frank said while making some unnecessary movements. He looked
 at the roof, biting his index finger. He seemed confuse. 
“I think ni ile Plan B inakuwa impilmented ki ujinga!” The guy said. 
“Ulipeana signal?” Frank shouted at him. 
“Zii!” The guy answered shaking his head. 
“ Wangetumess walahi. F**k them!” he said biting his lower lip. 
As for me, I felt relieved. I was very sure Jose would save me. The 
rate at which my heart was beating reduced. The saliva returned in my 
mouth. This time hotter and sour. I thanked God for saving me. I could 
hear some voices few yards away. The other guy had nervous. He did not 
know what to do. He kept following Frank asking “Boss, sasa hapa 
kutaendaje? Wanafika.” Frank was not happy with what was happening. 
“Ruka pale kwa mlango. Guard mtu asiingie kwanza. Buy time.” He 
shouted at the guy. The guy helplessly rushed out of the room and closed
 the door behind him. Frank looked at me and smiled. He nodded his head 
as though tipping me that a brilliant idea had just crisscrossed his 
head. He looked at me keenly. ‘what is he going to do next?’ I wondered.
 “Kama mimi ni wewe ningehepa tu. Hata singengojea Jose afike.” I told 
him. Trying to help him think. Coz I was cock sure that Frank was not 
think. He looked at me, then moved towards me at a lightning speed. The 
next think I heard was an erring sound in my left ear. My eyes went 
dark. Then I heard his voice, now sounding as though he was a million 
miles away. “Malaya wewe. Mimi si muoga.” He shouted. He had landed a 
nice slap on my left side of the face that it send me in another world. 
All I could see were small stars. He then jumped on my blouse. He held 
it from both sides and pulled it. I heard buttons from my blouse 
dropping all over. I rubbed my eyes as I resumed my normal being. “Unado
 nini Frank?” I asked him while crying. 
“Utanyamaza wewe.” He told me. I remained there, sited on the chair. 
Helpless. Only waiting for my savior, Jose. I wondered what Frank was up
 to. He then jumped to my bra. I tried to push him but I was too week. 
He loosened it and Alas! My boobs were as exposed as the nose. “Frank 
you want to rape me too!? Jose will kill you.” I tried to scream but he 
covered my mouth and pushed me back. He held my skirt and pulled it to 
my waist. The only thing that sustained me was my red panty.  My thighs 
were exposed too. I tried to save myself from him but I was unable. He 
held my hands together from the back of the seat and he used the other 
to loosen his belt. The next thing I heard was his trousers dropping on 
the ground. He now sat on me. I could feel our holy regions greeting 
each other. But don’t think otherwise. My panty was intact, so was his 
boxer. But I could feel his master close to my mistress. Anyway, it was a
 forced meeting and therefore, neither of them smiled at each other. Not
 under that circumstance. 
I suddenly heard arguments at the door. It was the guy trying to prevent entrance into the lecture room. 
“Utaacha tuingie huku ndani. Na si tafathali!” I heard Jose’s voice. I
 tried to scream his name but Frank’s mouth landed on my lips and he 
forcefully kissed me. I tried to bite him but I was unable. 
“Wait kiasi mtaingia” The guy responded. 
The arguments continued. Frank had still overcame me. He was a strong
 guy. He had big hands that could hold my two hands without straining. I
 wondered what he was up to. Was he trying to humiliate Jose? What was 
his mission? Was he trying to rape me? Myriads of questions filled my 
head as I struggled to save myself. Unfortunately, my efforts bore no 
fruits. 
“Wako huko ndani. That’s why hawataki kufungua!” I heard a female 
voice. I quickly recognized it. It was Beth’s voice. Beth was a fourth 
year student. When we joined campus, she was in her second year. She was
 attracted to Jose. She had been trying all the means to win him but her
 efforts were futile. Jose loved me. He never dated other girl. Unless 
in another planet. That was certain to me as my gender is certain to me.
 One day I almost fought with Beth. She had sent his best boyfriend to 
disturb me. Then she texted Jose that I was hanging out with another 
guy. Today, I was sure that she had seen me enter the lecture room, and 
also seen Frank. I was sure she had gone into Jose’s room und called him
 to come and witness. Or was she part of the plan? I wondered. 
“Nani wako huko ndani?” Frank shouted at the guy at the door. 
“Si shida yako kujua boss. Tembezeni viatu. Jipeni ka biz watu nguyaz” The guy rudely told Jose. The other girl just laughed. 
“Ni kama vindeo ni kama ndramaaa!” She shouted. “Take heart Jose. 
Watamaliza na watoke. Hata kama ni wewe am sure huwezi furahia 
ukikatziwa kabla huja… mwa… a…ga ndani” she added teasingly. 
“Utaacha jokes Kate.” Jose shouted. 
Oh! So it was Kate. Beth’s best friend. The girl who had been 
following Frank like a tick on a zebra. She hated Clara with all her 
heart, soul, mind and ass. She was always envy of her. She wanted to win
 Frank, but she knew all what Frank needed was Clara. She had warned 
Clara to stay away from Frank. “Frank is mine you assless woman! Stay 
away from her.” She had warned Clara. 
“Chema chajiuza, kibaya chajitembeza.” Clara had responded. Kate 
confessed to Clara that she will someday hurt her. This made me sure 
that they were part of the plan. And why did Frank want to kill me? Or 
was he threatening me. My mind opened. All the events started unfolding.
 The boy who used to be Kate’s toy, Anto, was Jose’s roommate. Now I 
understood. The plan was big. Jose’s phone being used to text Clara, the
 fingerprints on the knives. I connected all. “Son of a bitch!” I 
struggled to pronounce the words but my mouth was covered by Frank’s big
 lips. He had lips that were twice as Diamond’s. (Didn’t mean to hurt 
his fans. Am also one.) They were almost suffocating me. Thank God I had
 long nose. It helped capture the recycled oxygen from Frank’s nose. 
“Una ujinga!” I haerd Jose shout. Suddenly a loud bang followed.  
Believe me or not. He was in the room. Frank let my hands go. He quickly
 held my panty and pulled it. Before I realized, it was below my knees. 
He bent und pulled his trousers. He then rushed to the other corner of 
the room trying to fasten his bet. I quickly shot up from the chair, 
bent down reaching for my panty. I was confused. Whether to pull back my
 panty or shout at Jose. Events occurred at a speed of lightning.  All I
 heard was Jose’s voice. 
“Janet!” He shouted. “You with Frank? Of all people? In a lecture room?” 
“Jose tulikushoo” Kate chipped in before I opened my mouth. “Hata 
maybe ni yeye aliiba simu yako ndo usimtrace. Poor Janet. They all spoke
 before I could lift my head. 
“Jose, Umeamini?” Beth shouted. 
Before my panty reached my waist, Jose was out of the room. “Jose ni 
Frame. Jose nakufaaa..! Ningojee” I tried to shout running after him. 
The two girls also left the room. Before I reached the door, I felt 
Frank’s hand grab me. 
“Unaenda wapi?” He shouted. “Kuja hapa. Malaya!”

INNOCENT SOUL EPISODE 1

“Janet nina ball!” Clara said as she opened the 
next page of the book. I stopped reading and 
looked at her. 
“Ati?” i asked her. 
“Nimejazwa” she said simply. She then lifted 
her head and looked at me. She smiled. She 
lifted her left hand and held my shoulder. ” 
Umeshtuka?” She asked me. 
“Mbona hukuangi serious Clara? Unapenda 
kunipima akili sana.” I told her. looking 
straight into her eyes to see the level of 
seriousness in her. She looked normal. She 
was unmoved. She smiled as usual. 
“Ok basi. Nakupima. Uko ten kgs. Tusome 
sasa.” She said as she dropped her hand. She 
turned to her book and started reading again. 
I looked at her for a while. She was 
unconcerned. 
“Clara,” i called her. 
“Sahizi wewe ukiget ball utado?” i asked her. 
“Nikiget ama nina ball!!” She answered bitterly 
without looking at me. “Ungeniuliza naplan 
kufanya nini na hii ball nimebeba for three 
months”. 
She added. 
This time, she sounded more seriously. She 
remained glued to her book. She did not move 
her head. She remained fixed like an electric 
pole. The wind blew away her weave. i 
streched my eye and made it. 
“Ahsante!” she told me in a low tone. 
“Uko serious Clara Una ball?” I asked. This 
time more serious and concerned. 
“Sijoke Janet!” She said. Her voice sounded 
more weak. I remained silent for a while. I 
wondered what to tell her. I lifted my right 
hand ans held her by her left shoulder. ” Am 
sorry Clara!” i simply told her. 
“It’s ok.” She told me. She lifted her right 
hand and whipped her eyes. My eyes landed 
on her book. That’s when i noticed that the 
whole page was wet with tears. I turned her 
face towards me. Her eyes were as red as 
blood. They were swollen. Tears was flowing 
from them like a waterfall. She was crying. 
“You will handle it Clara!” i tried to comfort 
her. 
“Never my dear Janet. Hii story ni complicated 
than you can imagine.” 
“Mbona unasema ni complicated dear?” i 
asked her. 
“Never mind.” She said angrily. She closed her 
book. collected all her stuff and shot up. 
“Janet i am leaving. Hata nikisoma sielewi 
kitu.” she told me. 
” Sa unaenda wapi?” i asked her. 
“Naenda kemeet babake mtoi. We are going to 
make the final decision that will determine my 
fate.” she said while trying to dry her eyes. 
“But ujue exams ni Kesho kutwa. Pliz try to 
sttle your mind kabla iwe late” I told her. 
Clara leaned down and whispered into my 
ears, “Pliz hii iwe only between me and you. 
Hata mtu akikuuliza ka nimekuambia kitu, pliz 
sema hujui any.” 
“Sawa my dear. You know me. I cant tell 
anyone. But pliz don’t……” 
“I can’t,” She interrupted me. “Hiyo ndo stand 
yangu Msupuu.” 
“Hata hujui what i wanted to tell you. ” i told 
her. 
“Najua. you meant kuflash. Siwezi abort. Place 
nimefikisha huyu mtoi ni far. The dad’s 
wanadai nitoe but nimekataa..” 
“At dads!” I asked suprised. 
“Yah, Ni more than one dad responsible. You 
can think anything but for now i wont tell you 
anything. I am going to meet them. Na 
nimepewa instructions mob. Wamesema 
nisiambie mtu place tutameet tuongee. Pia 
nisiambie mtu naenda kumeet nani. So i will 
follow that if i want my baby to remain safe.” 
She whispered and raised her head. 
I was very confused. I wondered what she 
really meant. i tried to speak but she covered 
my mouth with her hand. 
“Usiseme any” She told me. “It is for your 
own good. Nisiporudi….” 
Before she finished her statement, her phone 
rang. 
“Nani huyu ananicall na private?” She said 
angrily. She then received the call. Her face 
changed suddenly as she listened to the other 
party. She only kept looking around as though 
she was looking for someone. 
“Nakushoo sijatell msee kuhusu hiyo book” 
she said in a terrified voice. “Pliz believe me. 
Hajui.” She added. 
Clara finished talking. She sat down trembling. 
She was extremely terrified. Her hands were 
trembling like a termite trapped on a spider’s 
web. She looked at me. She shook her head 
and held her hair. She bent down her head 
again. 
“Clara,” I called her. “Nini mbaya?” i asked 
trying to move close to her. 
“Kaa tu hapo na usimove.” She told me as she 
pushed me back to my position. I had never 
seen Clara acting like this before. She looked 
scare. She kept turning her head to look back. 
She peeped through the window severally. She 
sat down suddenly and grabbed my pen. She 
opened a blank page and tried to scribble 
some words on it.. she was writing in a hurry 
as though someone was watching her. I 
wondered what she was afraid of yet we were 
only two in the wall lecture room. 
Before clara finished writing, the door was 
opened. Clara dropped the pen on the book 
and pushed towards me. She then turned and 
looked at the door as she closed the page she 
was writing on. I also turned back and looked 
at the door. A tall guy was standing at the 
door his eyes fixed on us. She was dark, 
wearing a black jeans and a red tshirt with a 
black jumper. The jumper was unzipped. On 
the head, he had a back cap that had dropped 
down almost covering his face. On top of the 
cap, was the hood of the jumper. I could not 
recognise the man as his face was not clearly 
displayed. 
“Clara ni nani?” He shouted in a deep voice. 
“Ni mimi?” Clara answered in a low tone. 
“Come hivi. Chukua stuffs zako. Nimetumwa 
nikupik.” Clara bent down, collected her books 
and kept them in her bag. She looked at me 
for a while then said, “Nitarudi before late. 
Pliz leo naskia kula samaki.” She opened her 
handbag, removed a two hundred note and 
handed it to me. “Enda ubuy fish fry nitakam 
tukule sapa.” She then smiled and left. 
The man looked at her as she approached him. 
Her ushered her out and. He then followed. I 
quickly rushed to the window to watch them 
leave. Clara was leading the way and the man 
following him. it seemed they were having 
some conversation. At the back of the man’s 
jumper, was a big picture of a human skull 
with two bones crossing it. They vanished 
towards the gate. 
I quickly run back to my book. The one Clara 
had written something on. I opened the pages 
one by one. Finally, I came to the page that 
she had written on.. the handwriting was poor 
because of the hurry and the way she was 
trembling. I strained to read but i got each 
word. She had written, 
‘JANET, AM BEING WATCHED AND I THINK MY 
LIFE IS IN DANGER. WATU WALINIPA BALL 
WANACOME KUNIPIK WANIPELEKE KUARBOT 
CHA LAZIMA. INCASE OF ANYTHING, CALL HII 
NUMBER. 0724756…’ 
That is where the text ended. The number was 
incomplete. 
I quicked dropped the book and rushed out of 
the lecture room to follow them. I ran as fast 
as my legs could carry me. People looked at 
me and wondered. I had no time to rush to 
the campus security officer. All i wanted was 
to serve Clara. When i reached at the Gate, 
there was no sign of Clara. ‘They have left.’ I 
told myself. 
I quickly turned to the gate security officer. 
Panting like a gazelle that has just narrowly 
escaped from the claws of a lioness. 
”Ex..Ex..excuse me!” i tried to ask as i cool 
down. 
“Soja, Umeona msichana Mweupe amevaa skirt 
ya blue fupi na top ya white na weave. 
Amekuwa na mwanaume amevaa jumper ya… ” 
before i finished i saw the jumper and the cap 
that the man was wearing dropped at the edge 
of the school fence just after the gate. My 
heart skipped a beat. i pointed at the clothes. 
Looked at the gateman in surprise and asked 
him, “Umeona mwenye ametupa hizo nguo 
hapo?”

I remained standing, glued to the ground like a pole. I looked at 
him. He was different from the Frank than I knew before I realised who 
really he was. I felt like crashing him. At the same time, my heart was 
burning. Burning with fear and anger. What 
will he do to me? How did he know that I was in this hall? Does he know 
that I have all the information? Many questions ran through my head. I 
wondered what to tell him, what to do to him and what to do so that he 
tells me where Clara was. 
Frank’s eyes were fixed on me. He kept looking at the things I was 
holding in my eyes. He nodded his head. Removed his hand from my 
shoulder then made a step towards me. He dipped his right hand in the 
pocked then stretched his left hand towards me smiling. He then touched 
the jumper I was holding. 
“Nice jumper”, he said. “Now, will you sit down we talk?” he asked. 
Now trying to be serious. I kept looking at him. I did not move. 
“unataka tubonge kuhusu nini?” I asked him in a low tone. 
“Wewe kaa chini you will know what I want us to talk about.” He said in finality. 
“I can still talk while standing. And don’t take much of my time coz 
am also rushing somewhere.” I told him, also trying to be rude. 
“At the Police station?” He asked while laughing. “Sikiza Janet. 
Nataka uniambie what you know about Clara. You tell me everything that 
she has told you. Whatever ulicheki kwa phone yake. And after that, I 
will give you directions.” He added. 
I had never seen Frank like this before. Is this the Frank that I 
knew? His eyes were now wide and red. Blood veins could be seen on his 
protruding forehead. He kept nodding his head like a mad person. 
“Frank I don’t know what you are talking about. Please let me go!” I 
said trying to move past him. He pushed back using his left hand. “Don’t
 even think about it!” he told me in a bitter tone. 
“What will you do?” I also asked him in a bitter tone. 
“Usijifanye kujua sana Janet. Clara alikuambia nini kabla atoke?” He asked now pointing at me. 
“Hakuna. Tulikuwa tu tunasoma.” I answered simply. 
“Sawa, nipe hizo vitu, plus simu yake na yako pia. Then utoke uende.”
 Frank said. He moved close to me and pulled the jumper from me. He then
 pulled the cap too. 
“Masimu!” He ordered. 
“Sikupi Frank. Utado?” I asked angrily. 
“Sitado any” He told me smiling. He then lifted his shirt using his 
left hand. He used his head to let me look down his belt. I was scare by
 what I saw. I shiny knife. Sharpened at both sides and having a sharp 
end. My blood become cold suddenly. I started to tremble. I felt like 
crying. He looked at me again. Still nodding his head. He covered the 
knife then looked at me. 
“I see now you are ready to cooperate. Now do vile nimekusho” he told me. 
“Aki Frank chukua simu ya Clara but yangu niachie.” I told him while 
tears of fear started rolling down my cheeks. I was very scared that I 
felt weak. My head was thinking no more. For once I stopped thinking 
about Clara and thought of my life. I wished Jose was there. I felt 
helpless. I thought of screaming. Unfortunately, there was no other 
person near the lecture hall. It was on a weekend and more so late 
evening. I thought of what to do. My heart beating fast and hard that I 
could see the movement of my left breast. 
“Before tunegotiate about phones. Niambie kile Clara alikushoo.” He insisted. 
“Hakunishoo any” I told him while trying to sound Frank. 
“Usinifanye nitumie hii stuff nimekusho!” He told me trying to pull the knife. 
“Sawa!” I shouted while jumping to his hand to stop him from pulling 
the knife. “Alinishoo ana ball ya three months. Na atailea!” I told him 
while crying. 
“Alikushoo hiyo ball ni ya nani?” he asked me. 
“Zii. Hakunishoo!” I answered. 
“So nataka tumake deal. Hii deal itasave life yako, na Clara. “. 
Frank told me. Nataka nicall Clara. I want you to talk to her, tell her 
to agree to do what she is being told. After that, mtakuwa free!” Frank 
told me as he dipped his hand in his pocked. The other hand was holding 
the things he had snatched from me. He pulled out a small techno phone 
then dialled some number. He listened and when it was received at the 
other end he said. “Pea hiyo Malaya simu iongee na Malaya mwenzake” 
Frank’s words real made me bitter. Even after raping Clara, he still 
had the guts of calling her “Malaya”. And me too. Tears rolled down my 
cheeks. “Shika simu!” He ordered me. 
“I stretched my hand and picked the phone. I had started crying. Was I
 really going to accept to convince Clara to abort? Was the baby really 
worth death? What if Clara died in the process? Where will the blood of 
the two innocent souls go? On my hand? No. I wasn’t ready to convince a 
person to kill. More so to kill an innocent soul. I trembled as I held 
the phone. Frank pulled out the knife and pointed at me. “Fanya Mzaha 
hii kisu iingie kwa tumbo yako. Unajua mbona nimevaa cloves, hii kisu 
ina fingerprints za Jose. Usitake jua vile aliguza. But nitakudunga na

The thought of framing Jose for our murder made me mad. I loved Jose.
 I could not imagine him rotting in prison for something he did not 
commit. I remembered the promises he had made to me. And the promises I 
had made to him. “Sweetheart, If I ever die, I will make sure that I 
leave you happy. I leave you to cherish the moments we have shared 
together. The moments we have kissed, listened to the songs, made love, 
gone out and the bitter moments we overcame like the one we spent the 
whole day without eating coz we had no money. If I die, I will make sure
 I don’t leave any sorrows behind you.” I had once told Jose in a 
recording that he has really treasured to the moment. If I fail to 
convince Clara, Jose will die in Jail. 
“Unadanganya?” I finally told him. “Huweziframe jose.” I added while crying. 
“Kata hiyo simu kwanza nikushoo kitu.” Frank told me. He snatched the
 phone and hanged up himself. He returned it in his pocket then told me.
 “Najua una simu ya Clara. Uliichukua pale gate. So wewe itoe na 
uangalie inbox ka hutapata text imetoka kwa Jose.” He still nodded his 
head. I dipped my hand in my handbag and pulled out the phone. I 
unlocked it and believe me I saw a new text message. The number had been
 saved ‘Jose Shemeji’ the text read. “Clara, pliz let us meet at the 
usual place I confirmed what you told me. Janet ana mtu mwingine. 
Nimewapata pamoja na nikadeal naye. Boy alihepa.” I wanted to delete the
 massage. It made my nerves numb. I almost dropped the phone. 
“Hata ukudelete data iko kwa safaricom. Sasa shika simu uconvince 
huyo Malaya mwenzako.” He told me while handing the phone back. 
“Mimi si Malaya.” I said tears flowing down my cheeks like river 
sagana. If kengen could have found me, they could have generated a lot 
of energy from my tears. 
“Nyiny ni Malaya. Do u know how much nimespend kwa huyo kuro. The 
expensive dresses she wear. The laptop she possess, nimempeleka out hadi
 Mombasa. White sands. Unajua hata kiss alikuwa anakataa kunipea. All 
she wanted was to use my wallet. Pia wewe unajua hivyo coz kuna outs we 
went pamoja. Coz your Jose could not afford such expensive outs. Mbona 
mnapenda kula na kulipa hamtakii” Frank was now speaking with 
bitterness. His eyes had turned redder than before. “I had to get my 
payments. And coz my friends walinihurumia, they joined hands with me. 
Tukafanya harambee wakanihelp tukapata malipo. I even thought she was a 
virgin. Kumbe alikuwa hii mitaro ya kawaida. In the process, akapata 
ball. So I only need afanye a simple thing. Asizae huyo mtoto na 
tumalize hii stori. But hataki kusikia. Imebidi we use force. She either
 abort or they die both.” He said. 
He was now trembling with anger. Tears dropping while he sweat. He 
held the knife firmly. I also so death. He meant his words. I become 
confused. 
“call hiyo last dialled number! Malaya ya Malaya wewe.!” He shouted at me. 
I quickly pressed the call button und put the phone on my left ear. I
 was trembling like a termite trapped on a spider’s web. The call was 
picked by a man. When he had my voice. I heard him issue a command. 
“Ongea na huyu mwanamke.” 
“Hello dear..” I heard Clara’s voice. She sounded cooler than I had 
ever heard her. Her voice was soft, cool and innocent. Her breath made 
me feel as though she was just near me. “Janet..” she called my name 
after I remained long without speaking. Tears increase. I heard 
something chock me. I felt sorry for her. I imagined her lovely smile. 
Clara my dear. I tried to speak but I was unable. 
“Talk to me Janet. Are you there hun” She asked. 
“ye.. Ye.. Yeeess baby girl” I answered while crying. Then we both said “Am sorry” at the same time. 
“Nahesabu hadi tano. Ka hutakuwa umemshoo nakudunga mara kumi with 
this knife and order pia yeye auliwe.” Frank threatened me. He then 
started counting. He counted till three.. I was still unable to talk to 
Clara. She just kept telling me sorry. I cried more and more. I fought 
with my conscious and soul. I decided not to convince her. I rather die.
 I said to myself.  It was five. Frank became furious. He pulled back 
the knife and at the moment, I dropped the phone and shouted. “I love 
you Jose!”
