The grass has reportedly turned into a
lucrative money-maker for the county
government, raking in millions every
week from fining those who step on it .
The county makes at least KSh 40
million every month from fining
pedestrians who step on the grass and
other undesignated areas within the
city, for crossing roads at banned
places, for smoking outside of
designated zones and for littering
among other crimes, The Star
reported.
Out of thousands arrested daily, more
than half of them are found stepping on
the (in)famous ‘Kidero grass
‘.
This then means out of the 40 million
that the county rakes in, a big chunk of
it comes from those being fined for
stepping on the grass.
The fine for stepping on ‘Kidero grass’
is anything from KSh 700 to KSh 1,500.
