Female students joining universities
will be trained on reproductive health
from next year.
Speaking on the sidelines of the
ongoing University Academic Staff
Union national delegates conference in
Mombasa, Women Caucus secretary
June Mwajuma said women scholars
are consulting experts on plans to
launch a reproductive health
knowledge pool programme for all
universities.
“First year students are often shocked
by the newfound freedom at
universities. Some of them experience
a one-on-one interaction with men for
the first time,” Ms Mwajuma said on
Thursday.
FREE CONDOMS
Through the programme, she said,
female students would be provided
with free contraceptives such as
female condoms.
She said they would also persuade
counties to offer female students jobs
during vacations to shield them from
prostitution.
