COTU Secretary General, Francis
Atwoli, has said that he will contest
for the Presidency in 2017 to
address workers’ plight.
Addressing teachers in Uhuru
Park on Wednesday, Atwoli said
that he will vie for the Presidency
because Uhuru has demonstrated
that he doesn’t care about workers
in Kenya.
Atwoli said other Kenyans are
ready to take up the fight for
workers' rights if the Jubilee
administration cannot.
"But if it is difficult, there is a
simple solution. I have never
aspired for any political office but
let not the elected leadership push
Atwoli from where he is to elected
leadership,” Atwoli said.
He also said elected leaders should
put more effort in ensuring
workers, who make up their
electorate, have better working
conditions.
Atwoli also accused Uhuru’s
Government of obliterating the
country’s economy through
corruption.
On the weakening shilling, Atwoli
said our local currency is
weakening because of expensive
tenders that the Government has
signed with China and United
States.
